Pennsylvania State University commonly referred to as Penn State was founded in 1855 as Farmers’ High School of Pennsylvania.  Penn State competes in the Big Ten Conference. Penn State’s mascot is the Nittany Lion, a type of mountain lion that once roamed what is now University Park.  Home football games are played at Penn State’s Beaver Stadium, which has the second largest seating capacity of any stadium in the nation.
